Lynches River County Park encompasses about 680 acres of wildlife in the heart of Florence County.

The parcel of land was acquired by the state back in 1972, for the price of only $110,400.

Today, the park has several different amenities for visitors including expansive hiking trails, a riverwalk, an environmental discovery center and canopy walk, canoe and kayak rentals, a splash pad and cabin rentals.

There are three different hiking trails, that each span about a mile through the woods.

The riverwalk was built in 2001 and runs 1200 feet through the river’s floodplain.

While walking alongside the river, you get an opportunity to see nature first-hand, and get a very close look at the river and the cypress trees which surround it.

Construction on the environmental discovery center was completed in 2007, and it opened in early 2008.

It serves as a focal point for the park, providing exhibits on items, insects and animal bones found in the park.

In the center, you can also get a look at advanced weather stations and interactive exhibits that help you better understand nature’s impact on the area.

A new addition to the center is the canopy walk, which connects the building to several large trees.

Visitors get a chance to walk across swing-type bridges which connect between the trees, and are able to get a bird’s eye view of the park in the canopy of a tree.

Another recent addition to the park is the splash pad.

Previously, the park was home to an olympic-size swimming pool, but the cost of upkeep took its toll on the facilities.

In 2008, a splash pad opened to the public in place of the pool, which features several attractions that keep kids cool in the hot summer months.

The park also has canoe, kayak and cabin rentals for those wishing to enjoy the area for a longer period of time.
