MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Salem burst out to a 10-0 lead on way to a 10-3 win and series sweep over the Pelicans to end the regular season.

Kasey Kiker (3-4) was charged with the loss after he could only manage to get out one of six batters he faced. All three runs in the second inning were charged to Kiker.  The Red Sox added two home-runs in the fourth inning, including a grand slam from Peter Hissey, to give Salem all the run support they needed.

Salem’s Stolmy Pimentel (6-4) shut down the Birds in seven innings of work to take the win.

Myrtle Beach’s Jared Prince hit a 2-run home run and was also hit by a pitch, tying a Carolina League record with his 30th HPB this season.

After an off day on Tuesday, the Carolina League postseason begins on Wednesday night at BB&T Coastal Field when the Pelicans host game one of the Southern Division Championship Series against the Kinston Indians. The Birds and the K-Tribe split the 20-game regular season series that included the longest game in Carolina League history, a 23-inning affair in Kinston on June 12 that the Indians won 3-2. First pitch at BB&T Coastal Field in the playoff opener is set for 7:05 p.m.

Tune into News 13 at 6 and 11 on Tuesday to catch a preview of the Carolina League Playoffs and the march to the Mills Cup.
