Gamecocks, Tigers ranked in Baseball America preseason poll

South Carolina is ranked third, and Clemson is 16th in the Baseball America preseason baseball poll released Tuesday.

Florida is ranked No. 1 in the poll.

The two-time defending champion Gamecocks open the season Feb. 17 against VMI. USC returns several members from last year’s team, including pitchers Michael Roth and Matt Price and first baseman Christian Walker.

The Gamecocks also were ranked No. 2 in the Collegiate Baseball poll released in December.

It marks the 24th consecutive season that Clemson has earned a preseason top-25 ranking by one of the three major polls. The Tigers were No. 25 in the Collegiate Baseball preseason poll.

Clemson had a 43-20 record last year and will open this season Feb. 17 against UAB at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
