MYRTLE BEACH, SC – Myrtle Beach gets a 2-run home run from catcher Vinny DiFazio and starter Justin Grimm throws six-innings of one run ball to lift the Pelicans to a 4-1 game one win against Kinston in a best of five playoff series Wednesday at BB&T Coastal Field.
Grimm got out of a bases loaded, one out jam unscathed in the first inning. He finished with six strikeouts in six innings.
DiFazio put the Pelicans on the board in the second inning with a towering two run home run to left field.
Ryan Strausborger and Jared Prince added RBI in the eighth inning to give the Pelicans a cushion.
Relief pitchers Joe Ortiz, Ryan Rodebaugh and Matthew West threw three scoreless innings to close the game out. West recorded his first save since being called up to advanced Class-A.
Myrtle Beach outhit Kinston 13-6 in the game one victory.
The Pelicans and Indians square off in game two of the best of five Carolina League Southern Division Series on Thursday at BB&T Coastal Field. First pitch is set for 7:05.
