CONWAY — West Florence coach Trey Woodberry has never picked up a win a big as the one he got Friday night at Conway.
Woodberry’s Knights stopped a surging Tigers offense on a first-and-goal inside the 10-yard line with time running out to preserve a 20-14 win.
“We came to play,” Woodberry said. “Hostile environment, one of the best teams around, we played our tails off we never gave up.”
It’s the Knights second straight win while starting a freshman at quarterback.
Marquane Goodman, West Florence’s fourth-string signal caller, tied the game at 14 with a short run in the third quarter, capping off a drive in which the Knights pounded their no-huddle offense straight at the Tigers defense.
Goodman also gave West Florence (4-3, 1-0 Region 6-4A) the lead for good late in the fourth quarter on a fourth-down quarterback keeper from the 1.
