The Marion Swamp Foxes took full advantage of their home at Fox Field in their second round Class 2A Division II playoff game versus Andrews Friday night. Coming off the opening round bye week, Marion swarmed the Yellow Jackets in route to a 41-14 victory.
The Swamp Foxes got on the board in the opening quarter thanks to a 3-yard touchdown run from Lue Clemmons. Andrews answered with this 2-yard touchdown run from Larry Brown to even the score at 7-7 in the second quarter.
On the first play of the ensuing drive, Marion's Keyonta Foxworth ran out of a shoe on his way to a 65-yard touchdown run and 14-7 lead.
On the next drive for Andrews Ervin Heard was picked off by Marion's Chris Washington. The sure-handed cornerback raced the football 45-yards up the field and inside the Yellow Jackets 5-yard line. From there, Thorn Bacote wasted little time getting into the endzone on a 5-yard touchdown run to take a 21-7 advantage.
On the next drive for Marion, the Swamp Foxes showcased why they may have the best running back tandem in the Pee Dee. Clemmons exploded through the gap, dragging a Yellow Jacket defender into the endzone on a 62-yard touchdown run and quarterback Devante Gilbert followed up with a clever 4-yard playaction touchdown pass to Michael Outlaw for a 35-7 halftime lead.
Foxworth added a 5-yard touchdown in the final quarter, while kicker Zi Huang was a perfect 6-for-6 on PAT kicks.
Foxworth rushed for 223 yards and Clemmons added 115 yards as the Swamp Foxes (7-4) advance to the third round of the playoffs and will travel to Bishop England Friday.
The Mullins Auctioneers were also victorious, winning on the road at Woodland 18-14.
Mullins (7-5) got a big lift defensively on a fumble recovery from Ryan Fladger returned for a touchdown. Quarterback Justin Elliott connected with Tyre Constant for a touchdown pass along with a field goal by Miquel Renteria. An Auctioneer safety put the game away. The Aucs will travel to Silver Bluff Friday night.
