FLORENCE — Taylor Jones won a third-set tiebreaker, 10-3, over Joseph Kitowicz in No. 4 singles that proved to be the difference as West Florence defeated Blythewood 4-2 on Tuesday in the first round of the Class 4A boys tennis playoffs.
The Knights will play Aiken on Thursday.

Knights, Bruins qualify for Class 4A lower state tourney
SUMTER — West Florence and South Florence finished third and fourth, respectively, at the Region 6-4A tournament to qualify for next week’s Class 4A tournament in Summerville.
The Knights’ Stephen Behr and Jordan Marsh were named to the all-region team after shooting a 72 and a 79, respectively.
Sumter fired a 296 to win the region championship, and Carolina Forest placed second.

Sharks win Region 8-3A tournament
FLORENCE — Bruce Michaels earned medalist honors with a 144 as the Sharks won the Region 8-3A tournament.
St. James had the top four finishers in the tournament. Will Pettigrew shot a 157 to lead Wilson, which finished fifth. Pettigrew qualified for next week’s Class 3A lower state tournament.

BASKETBALL
Timmonsville’s McKithen to play at Claflin
TIMMONSVILLE — Timmonsville Ashley McKithen signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Claflin.
McKithen averaged 14.2 ppg, 8.7 rpg, 4.9 apg, 2.4 spg, and 1.3 bpg in helping Timmonsville to the Class A lower state finals. She was a six-year letterman for the Whirlwinds and was a varsity starter since the eighth grade.
For her career, McKithen finished with 1,661 points, second most in school history, and Timmonsville
“Ashley is one of the best players I have had the privilege of coaching. She is physical enough to play inside, but she also shoots well from the perimeter,” Timmonsville coach Perry Stokes said. “She is a complete player with all the skills necessary to perform well on the next level. I predict she will have a very successful collegiate career at Claflin.”
Claflin is coached by Tiffany Tucker, a former assistant coach at Francis Marion
