Matt Crafton admits he’s not big into stats.
So it’s no surprise the California native was unaware he will be making his 250th career Camping World Truck Series start in today’s Too Tough to Tame 200 at Darlington Raceway.
“I actually had no idea until I read it on the Internet a few days ago,” Crafton said Friday. “I’m very thankful to be doing this as long as we have and to have had the success we’ve had.”
Crafton is the points leader for only the second time in his career heading into today’s race and has been one of the most consistent drivers in the series. He has 74 straight top-10 finishes.
Crafton’s only win came in Charlotte in 2009.
“That was a huge win for us. It had been a huge monkey on my back that I couldn’t get off,” Crafton said. “Every night I went to sleep saying, ‘am I going to do or not?’ But now it’s, ‘when am I going to win the next one?’
“There have been so many taken from us since then, but we are there each and every week, so it will come.”
300th start for KHI
Kevin Harvick’s truck team will achieve a milestone today.
KHI will get its 300th start in the team’s history when Elliott Sadler and Nelson Piquet pilot the team’s two entries in today’s race.
In their previous 298 starts, KHI trucks have earned 33 wins, 119 top fives, 177 top 10s and two truck series championships.
McCumbee will drive today
Chad McCumbee will drive the No. 45 truck in today’s race instead of Mike Skinner, who will spot for the No. 50 truck driven by T.J. Bell.
McCumbee, a Supply, N.C., native, started in place of Skinner at Daytona and finished 35th. It will be McCumbee’s first truck start at Darlington.
S.C. lottery to sponsor Lafferty’s truck
The South Carolina Education Lottery will sponsor the No. 89 truck driven by Chris Lafferty.
It will be Lafferty’s first race of the season. He drove in eight races last season, including a 31st-place finish at Darlington.
