On July 12 at Hemingway High School, football teams from around the Pee Dee converged for a seven on seven passing league.
As teams prepare for fall practices in a few weeks, more and more details are being thrust upon the players and passing leagues such as the one in Hemingway, allow for players to implement what they learn in practice into a situation similar to a game.
Hemingway’s Head Coach, Ken Cribb, said that he believes the passing leagues do a good job livening up normal practices and can have a positive effect on both sides of the ball.
“It gives the kids something to do and it breaks the monotony of the weight room,” Cribb said. “It’s good for your passing game and probably even a little better for your pass defense. More and more high school teams are throwing the ball and it all starts here”
When Cribb refers to teams passing, he’s talking about his Tigers who aim to put the ball in the air a good bit this year, with weapons like Jordan Heyward at the helm and Jabril Soloman, Dominique Pyatt and a host of other playmakers on the field.
Teams from Mullins, Timmonsville, Carvers Bay, Latta and Creek Bridge joined Hemingway to take part in the unique style of scrimmaging.
Seven on seven passing leagues involve only wideouts and quarterbacks, with only passing plays allowed.
