Led by Tisheema Elmore and Shaunice Fulmore, Lake City made a late offensive push to hold off Mullins 52-47 Wednesday and capture the girls’ title in the Bojangles Red Fox Holiday Basketball Classic played at Hartsville High School Arena.
Elmore had 14 points and Fulmore 10 as the Lady Panthers (6-3) rallied from a four-point deficit at the start of the final quarter.
Brittany Rowell scored a game-high 23 points for Mullins (5-4) in a losing effort. Rowell was named the Classic MVP.
Fulmore was named to the All-Classic Team along with teammate Jasmine McClam and Hartsville’s Mary Godfrey.
The victory exacted revenge for Lake City, which lost to Mullins 40-36 on Tuesday. Much like their first meeting, the championship game was hard-fought throughout and undecided until the final quarter of play.
With the game tied at 39-39 with 5:34 left to play, Lake City put together 8-0 run led by Elmore to take a 47-39 lead. The Lady auctioneers would get no closer than six the rest of the way.
