South Carolina overlooked Arkansas before the de-facto SEC East title game, but that wasn’t the case on Saturday at Clemson.
The defense stymied Clemson, giving up just 163 yards in the final 58-minutes to beat their rival in consecutive years for the first time since 1970.
"We just put that (start) behind us,” defensive linemen Travian Robertson said. “We have been in that position before. They caught us in busted coverage and we knew we couldn't let them score again."
“If that’s what we have to do to come out and win a game, we will let them score first every time,” junior quarterback Stephen Garcia said. “But we’d rather not do that.”
Despite the dominant effort on Saturday, Steve Spurrier says his team will have to play better in order to knock off #2 Auburn.
“To win in the dome we have to play defense and the offense has to play better,” Spurrier said. Because Auburn, they are going to move the ball."
We get a second chance, it’s a big game,” Travian Robertson said. “(Auburn has) a great offense and a great team. We can’t give them anything and we have to finish.”
It’s been a season of firsts for South Carolina. 2010 is the first year USC has won at Gainesville. It’s the first win over a top-ranked team in the country (Alabama) and first trip to an SEC Championship in school history.
“We are doing a lot of firsts,” Garcia said. “Hopefully we can keep this going and get the first SEC Championship.”
South Carolina will hold a Monday night practice at 6pm at ‘The Proving Grounds’. Steve Spurrier and players will address the media on Tuesday.
