DARLINGTON -- We started the race off and we had such a great car for the first four laps, so I thought it was going to be such a great night for us.
By the end of the first run, I could barely keep the car off the wall. It was so frustrating for me. After that, we just fought the car. It just fell off so much after a few laps.
Fortunately, after a couple of stops, we were able to get the air pressure back up to where we wanted it to be, and got dialed in again.
It didn’t last long. We were plowed into the back of and wrecked on one of the restarts. That jacked up our car and it was pretty much the end of our night.
Luckily, I was able to remain calm and not push too hard and put the thing in the fence. That gave us a shot to finish and if we hadn’t been run over, we would have had at least a shot at a top-20 finish.
Our teammate Brian Vickers (who finished ninth) had really good stuff and our was really good at times, too.
But it just has a lot to do with our experience as a team. (Crew chief) Jimmy (Elledge) and I missed the setup so much out of the gate of the race that we didn’t predict what the car needed to be like for the changing conditions on raceday.
That seems to be a pattern. We will have two good races and we will have two races where we just guess wrong.
I thought the track was in good shape, but it’s hard to race on it because it only has one groove right now, so it isn’t my favorite to go to right now.
On our drive home, we were pulled over by a cop in South Carolina right before we got into North Carolina. But the cop was really cool about it, and we were able to talk our way out of it.
It was good to be able to sleep until about 11 a.m. today and I talked to my mom who lives in California and wished her a happy Mother’s Day. It stinks that they are in California, but hopefully, we can get them to move back here in the next year or so.
I also got to play golf with Kyle Busch, my manager and his fiancé. It was Kyle and me versus my manager and fiancé. We ended up losing, but my manager’s fiancé was killing the ball off the ladies’ tee and it was just too much of an advantage.
Dover is the next stop for us this week and Dover is going to be a tough one for us.
We really need to turn it around. If we can turn it around at Dover, it is going to give us a ton of confidence at a track, which is really tough for us.
