Sumter defeats Hartsville in final home game
The Hartsville varsity boys’ soccer team lost 4-2 in the final home game of the season Friday against Sumter. The first goal was scored by Wil Atkinson assisted by Evan Vasseur. The second was scored by Wes Regan on a free kick from about 30 yards out.

The Foxes hit the cross bar twice, and the keeper made a save in the upper 90, but the Foxes could not get the equalizer. Sumter then scored in the last five minutes to seal the win. Hartsville finished its season Tuesday night on the road in Conway.

Sumter also defeated the Hartsville girls’ varsity soccer team 3-1 on Friday. Carrie Hardy made the only Red Fox score. Senior Susai Smart had four saves, and Emily Cameron had nine.

Foxes finish Tigers in overtime
Hartsville was back on the road again to Wilson high for an out of conference match-up April 28. It was an exciting match which saw numerous lead changes.

Wilson scored first on a defensive breakdown on a counter attack by Wilson. Hartsville got on the board several minutes later with an own-goal credited to Wes Regan. Wilson scored again to put the Tigers up 2-1 with 20 minutes to play.

Hartsville finally found the back of the net off of a shot in the box from Regan. With regulation ending in a tie, the game went to overtime where Regan was awarded a penalty kick. He finished the penalty, and Hartsville only saw a lead for a few minutes. With 30 seconds on the clock, Wilson was awarded a free kick from the sideline and took a quick cross where the Tiger’s striker buried the header to tie the game.

In the shoot out, Dalton Hall, Wil Atkinson and Hunter Truett finished their PKs, and Kalob Berry came up with two saves to hold on for the road win.

"Wilson really came to play today. I think our kids had some rubbery legs from last nights match and thought they weren't going to have to work that hard,” Coach Troy Alexander said. “Wilson has improved tremendously since our last matchup."

Red Foxes struggle to counter Bruins
Hartsville seemed to possess the ball throughout most of the match but could not find the back of the net in a hard fought 2-0 loss at South Florence April 27.

South Florence scored on a penalty kick in the 34th minute. The score was 1-0 at half time after a 30-minute weather delay. Several scoring opportunities happened for both sides in the second half with the Bruins putting one in the net in the 75th minute. The Hartsville defense struggled all night to keep the counter attack of South Florence at bay.
