MYRTLE BEACH - The Hartsville High varsity boys’ soccer team won a tough road battle at Carolina Forest Friday 3-1. The game was extremely rough with eight total cards being given out. The victory brings the Red Foxes’ record to 5-1 on the season and 1-0 in the conference.
“We played so well in the first half but came out flat in the second and let them back in the game a bit,” Coach Troy Alexander said. “We have to improve on putting together a complete game.”
Goals were scored by Wes Regan in the 5th minute on a penalty kick after Evan Vasseur was taken down in the box. Vasseur scored in the 11th minute after a hussle play from Caston Jeffords popped a ball loose. Vasseur was first to the ball and banged it home. The third Red Foxes’ goal was scored on a service in the 31st minute when Wil Atkinson served the ball in the box. Regan ran on to it and slipped it by the keeper.
The score was 3-0 at half, but Carolina Forest scored in the 48th minute to get on the board.
The next varsity home match is 6 p.m. for the girls and 7:30 p.m. for the boys against conference rival South Florence at The Cage.
In addition to the game, Hartsville High will host youth night in conjunction with the match. If children wear their youth soccer jerseys, they get in for free. They will also get to play at the half of each match on the game field in front of a huge crowd.
