FLORENCE — The Florence RedWolves have signed right-handed pitchers Matt McCall and Carlton Paris.
McCall is a 6-foot-3, 190-pound freshman at Mercer University. In four starts this spring, he is 2-1 with a 4.26 earned run average. In 19 innings, he’s given up 17 hits, walked five and struck out 14.
“Matt is a true, three-pitch mix, right-handed arm,” said RedWolves coach Russell Carter. “He has excellent command of all of his pitches, which allows him to be successful two or three times through
the lineup.
“We expect Matt to be a staple in our rotation.”
Paris is a 6-4, 190-pound junior at South Alabama. In six appearances out of the bullpen, he has one save and a 7.45 ERA. In 9 2/3 innings, he’s allowed 14 hits, walked two and struck out eight.
“Carlton is a power arm with a very good fastball-slider combination,” Carter said. “He has been throwing in the late innings for South Alabama, and should do the same for the RedWolves.”
