FLORENCE — The Florence RedWolves have signed catchers Ronnie Freeman and Ben Scott for the 2010 Coastal Plain League season.
Freeman is a 6-foot-1, 190-pound freshman at Kennesaw State. In 15 games this spring, the right-handed batting Freeman his hitting .317 (19-for-60) with four doubles, a home run and 13 RBI.
“Ronnie is a plus defender behind the plate,” said RedWolves coach Russell Carter. “With the running game being such a big part of offense in our league, having someone like Ronnie will be key to the
success of our team defense.
“Also, Ronnie is hitting in the middle of the order for Kennesaw State and projects to do the same this summer.”
Scott is a 6-2, 215-pound junior at Elon. In nine games this spring, the right-handed batting Scott is hitting .250 (3-for-12).
“Ben … will give us plenty of options with his versatility,” Carter said. “He will certainly see time behind the plate, but is also very apt at third and could see some spot duty at first.
“He should provide gap-to-gap power and drive in his share of runs.”
Faith and Family
The RedWolves will be holding the fourth annual Faith and Family Night at American Legion Field on July 11. The event will begin at 5 p.m. with a pre-game praise concert with Lesa Hudson.
“Lesa has been providing the music for this event since we started it and we are glad to have her back again,” said RedWolves general manager Jamie Young. “She has a great following and people from all over our area know her and her music.
“Lesa is very energetic and this night has grown greatly each year with her leading it. The RedWolves invite all of our local church groups to come out and enjoy a great evening of fellowship, music and baseball.”
