LAKE VIEW — Avonlea Cooke pitched a complete game and also hit a solo homer in the third inning as the Lake View softball team defeated Johnsonville 5-2 on Friday in a battle of ranked teams in the state.
Natalie McKenize added two RBI and Chessie Miller scored two runs for the Wild Gators, who were ranked sixth in the S.C. Coaches poll.
Rachel Gaster took the loss for the third-ranked Flashes and also had an RBI.

LAKE VIEW — West McCutcheon pitched a complete game and Johnsonville held off a late Wild Gator comeback.
Lake View, which trailed 4-1 going into the ninth inning, scored twice and had runners on first and second with one out. But Taylor Strickland came out and struck out the last two batters to end the game.
Strickland had two hits and an RBI for Johnsonville.
