PREP ROUNDUP: Lake City belts four homers in victory

» 0 Comments | Post a Comment

LAKE CITY — The Lake City Panthers blasted four home runs and came up with two late defensive gems to beat Myrtle Beach 11-10 in its Region 7-3A baseball opener on Tuesday.
Clinging to an 11-10 lead in the seventh inning, Lake City thwarted two Myrtle Beach scoring chances.

With one out in the inning and a Myrtle Beach runner at third, Lake City catcher Zack Holt corraled a passed ball that caromed off the backstop and tossed to pitcher Mike Hyman to cut down the runner breaking for home.

Then with a Myrtle Beach runner on first base, Lake City first baseman Tommy McClam dove to his right to knock down a would-be base hit, got to his feet and beat the batter to first to end the game.
McClam’s two-run homer in the fourth inning put Lake City ahead for good.

Shon Carson, Sheldon Robinson and Justin Owens also homered for Lake City, now 4-1 overall.
