FLORENCE - West Florence High School hosted the first track meet of the season Tuesday, March 9. Hartsville, Lamar, South Florence and Darlington high schools participated in ten events while a large crowd cheered from the stands and excited teammates cheered from the sidelines of the track.
For some like seniors LeAmber Gregg of Hartsville High School and Trevor Goss of West Florence it was the exciting start to a new season and a chance to see their practice pay off.
“I usually run a faster time in practice, but I did well here today,” Gregg said. She said she is optimistic about the season and sees it as somewhat bittersweet. She will graduate this spring, but looks forward to starting at Lander University in the fall.
Goss reached a personal goal of clearing nine feet in the pole vault event.
For the women Hartsville High came out on top with 69 points. Lamar, 39/West Florence, 34/Darlington, 26 and South Florence, 19.
For the men, Darlington was first with 80 points. Lamar, 45.5/Hartsville, 35/West Florence. 25.5 and South Florence, 22.
