HARTSVILLE - Today let's discuss the approach shot. This is probably the most important shot second only to the serve. This shot sets a precedent for the entire point.
With an effective approach shot, you can have an easy put away volley. Remember this little tip in singles: Hit the approach shot back from where it came. This will wrong foot the opponent and keep the court closed.
Most players just hit the approach shot to the open court. That is great if you can hit a winner, but this also opens up the court for your opponent's passing shot. When you go behind the player, it keeps them in a defensive position and allows you to stay in control of the point. So decrease your backswing on the approach shot, and hit behind your opponent and just bisect the angle and play your volley or overhead.
See you on the courts!
