NORTH MYRTLE BEACH -- North Myrtle Beach believes they've found their man to get their football team back to challenging their rivals to the South. Tuesday athletic director Joe Quigley announced thie hiring of Perry Woolbright as their new football coach.
Woolbright most recently was the offensive coordinator at Gaffney High School, helping lead the team to a 10-4 record in 2009, and a trip to the third round of the playoffs. He's also been an OC at Chowan University, and an assistant coach at Fort Dorchester High School.
The Clover, SC native played quarterback at Appalachian State University, and plans on brining the Mountaineers' spread option offense to North Myrtle Beach. Woolbright says that type of exciting offense helps to "keep kids interested" and put fans in the seats.
Woolbright says he met with the North Myrtle Beach community, and felt they were hungry to win, and compete with Myrtle Beach. He also said he's excited to work with the younger kids in the North Strand area to get players excited about football before they even get to 9th grade.
Woolbright replaces Denver Cromer who left the program after a 4-7 season last year.
He says he will travel to the Strand this week to meet the team, and hopes to start teaching and coaching in the next few weeks.
