DeBordieu to host Carolinas PGA Head Pro Championship

»  Comments | Post a Comment

MYRTLE BEACH - Carolinas PGA Tournament Director Chris Mezenski is proud to present the DeBordieu Club Head Professional Championship as the newest major tournament addition for Carolinas PGA Professionals. The DeBordieu Club Head Professional Championship will be held Monday and Tuesday, March 22 – 23, 2010 at DeBordieu Club in Georgetown, S.C.

The Carolinas PGA DeBordieu Club Head Professional Championship will feature Class-A PGA Professionals who have achieved the highest level of Class – A membership. The premise behind this tournament was to give Head Professionals, including Directors of Golf, General Managers and other decision-makers at our facilities throughout the Carolinas, the opportunity to play in a tournament specifically catering to their classifications. With a separate championship already established for assistants and apprentices, it is only fitting that in 2010 all other classifications should receive their own major as well. This tournament will help build an exclusive niche for the decision-makers at clubs and give the tournament schedule another great stop in the spring months.

One of the Grand Strand’s only exclusively private facilities, DeBordieu Club boasts a Pete Dye and son designed 18-stop nature tour on a challenging but playable course that winds through the marshland of DeBordieu. Playing more than 7,000 yards from the championship tees, the Links Course which was opened in 1987, provides its members with a design that can be challenging yet fun, no matter what tees are played. Its 17th hole was designated the “number one” golf hole on the Grand Strand. Competitors playing in the DeBordieu Club Head Professional Championship will certainly have their work cut out for them in this, the first major of the year.

The DeBordieu Club Head Professional Championship is a 36-hole stroke play event open to Class – A (not A-8) PGA Professionals residing in North and South Carolina. Play will begin the morning of Monday, March 22. Specific groupings will follow in a Media Alert to be sent Friday, March 19. Members of the media are more than welcome to join us at DeBordieu Club to see who will be crowned the first champion of what we’re sure will grow into a very prestigious championship. As always, the Carolinas PGA would like to thank PGA Head Professional Shawn Roper, his staff and the members of DeBordieu Club for their commitment to the Carolinas PGA and its most prestigious tournaments and events.
