HARTSVILLE – Hartsville High School graduate Skylar Pate officially signed her letter of intent to play softball at Aiken Tech University on Wednesday.
“It’s going to be a new experience,” Pate said. “I’m glad I’m going to meet new people.”
Pate had an outstanding year for the Red Foxes, hitting .425 with 34 hits, scoring 28 runs and driving in 14 RBIs. She was named the 2010 MVP, earned All-Region and All-State honors and was selected to play in the North/South All-Star game.
Hartsville High School softball head coach Bobby Sowell is excited for the opportunity that Pate has playing softball at Aiken Tech.
“This is a good fit for Skylar,” Sowell said. “Coach Smith is a proven, quality coach. I look forward to seeing her play for Aiken Tech.”
Aiken Tech head coach Mitch Smith said that Pate will play third base like she did in high school and that she stands a good chance of starting as a freshman if she comes in and works hard.
“The kid has great hands at third and can swing the bat well from the left side,” Smith said.
Pate will report to Aiken Tech on Aug. 15.
