Dillon Motor Speedway revs up after rainout

DILLON - Rain may have washed out racing two weekends ago, but emotions were at a peak this past weekend from the local racers at Dillon Motor Speedway.

Door to door intense racing occurred within all of the divisions such as the Four Cylinders, Street Stock, Late Models, Chargers, Super Trucks and the Mini Cup. The crowd was on their feet as they welcomed two first-time winners this season as well as a few who have won back to back.

The first race of the evening started at the conclusion of qualifying and heat races. As a result, the Four Cylinders would take to the track to battle for the first win of the night. Emory Herring would earn his third win of the season at Dillon Motor Speedway. The race was one of the most action filled races of the night. Brian Owens would get passed for the lead on lap 17 in route to a runner-up finish. Mike Stafford and Kevin Jackson would lean on each other hard for the third and fourth positions, and Leon Vinson would round off the top five. Sarah Mabe raced with the Four Cylinders as she captured her first Jr.Bomber victory of the season.

The next race of the night was the Street Stock cars. Randy Hall would triplicate his car number in his efforts to win three in a row. Hall would also lead 31 laps, including the heat race and main event. There were a few spins and hardnosed battles, but Chris Powers would avoid them and finish second. Chad Lockamy would finish third along with Ricky Locklair in fourth. Hayes Goodson would overcome adversity and finish fifth.

Dillon Motor Speedway announced a $500 bounty for anyone who can come out this weekend, finish on the lead lap and beat Randy Hall in the #1 car.

The Late Models were up in smoke as Hal Goodson lit his tires up on a post race burnout as he capitalized on his second Late Model victory of the season. Goodson would dominate the night by sitting on the pole and leading every lap. Luckily there were no accidents, but a few cars stalled on pit road and on the track to bring out three cautions. Scott Wise would finish second, Jon Lane third, Archie Adams Jr. and Sr. fourth and fifth respectively.

Emotions were as hot as the weather in the Charger Division on Saturday as Kent Harper would lead most of the race until he clipped the wall. Bobby June would muscle his way by for his first win of the season. Harper would finish second followed by Mike Watts rounding out the top three. Michael Williamson would replicate his car number and finish fourth. Kevin Ellis finished fifth.

In the Super Trucks, Hal Goodson would win his third victory in a row but not without an intense battle with runner-up finisher Todd Kelly. A few trucks did have some complications, but overall the race was clean with only two cautions. Ryan Hall would finish third, Marty Griggs fourth and Wayne Mahoney fifth.

In the Mini Cup cars, Justin Hicks would win his second race in a row by leading every lap. The field was tightly packed from second all the way to twelfth. John Sofield would avoid a large accident out of turn two to finish second. Steven Brewer would finish third, Larry Boyle fourth and Dakota Rose fifth.

Dillon Motor Speedway will hold the Sellers Septic Tank 200 on Saturday. The Four Cylinders, Street Stock, Chargers, Bombers and Late Models will be attending the event. There will also be a bike race for the children, so bring the whole family and spend the afternoon at Dillon Motor Speedway. The pit gates open at 3 p.m. Practice begins at 4:15 p.m. and qualifying at 6:30 p.m. The heat races begin at 7:30 p.m.
