Nationals place second in state tourney

The Hartsville National Major League All Stars finished runner-up in the Dixie Youth Major League Ozone State Tournament in Seneca, S.C. Hartsville defeated Mid Carolina 13-11 on Thursday to advance to the championship. Hartsville lost 13-3 to Lexington on Friday in the championship game.

Northern Farm competes in region contest

The Hartsville Northern Farm League All Stars started play in the Region 1 AA Tournament in Clarkton, N.C., on Saturday. Hartsville lost to Powhatan, Va., 17-7 on Saturday but won 7-3 against Lexington, Tenn., and 17-7 against Mauldin, S.C., on Sunday.

Northern Majors play in Clemson

The Hartsville Northern Major League All Stars started play in the Dixie Youth Major League State Tournament in Clemson, S.C. Hartsville lost the first game on Saturday 7-3 to Union due to missed opportunities. Hartsville left nine men on base during the whole game.

Hartsville rallied in the sixth on Sunday to defeat Pineview 12-10. Hartsville was down 10-3 going into the sixth and pushed nine runs across the plate to ensure the victory. All nine runs came off of clean base hits, which included three homeruns. Hartsville hit a total of five in the game.

Coker baseball well-represented at Legion State Tournament

When the S.C. State Legion Baseball Tournament began Friday, there was no shortage of Coker College baseball players both past and present representing the Cobra program. Three current players and one former player will all travel to Columbia to take part in the 2010 tournament.

Current players Chad Nader (Rock Hill) and Seth Rainey (Rock Hill) represented Rock Hill Post 34, while Dan Meyer (Murrells Inlet) represented Murrells Inlet Post 178. Meyer is slated to be the starting pitcher for Post 178, while Nader will be starting at either second base or short stop for Post 34 and Rainey will most likely be coming out of the bullpen to close the game with his team leading four saves this summer.

On the other side of the field will be former Cobra Trey Lynch, class of 2010. Lynch is one of the assistant coaches for Florence Post 1. Lynch has helped guide Post 1 to a state leading 27 wins this season.
