COLUMBIA – Taylor Black’s two-run single capped a four-run eighth inning and lifted the Columbia Blowfish to a 5-4 come-from-behind victory over the Florence RedWolves on Wednesday. Florence drops to 26-17 with the loss.
Austin Smetana and Peter Mooney each had two hits and an RBI for Florence, who led 4-1 going into the bottom of the eighth.
Jacob Smith took the loss for the RedWolves, who wasted a strong pitching performance from starter Colby Holmes.
Holmes struck out 11 and allowed two earned runs on two hits in 7 1/3 innings.
The Blowfish set two records in the victory. Columbia set the single-season stolen base record when Nick Orvin stole second in the first inning. It was Columbia’s 145th stolen base of the year, which breaks the mark, set by Peninsula last year.
Columbia’s Branfy Arias also stole his 59th base of his career, breaking the CPL record held by Peninsula’s Eddie Van Es.
The two teams play again today at Legion Field in Florence at 7:30 p.m.
