FLORENCE – Two more RedWolves were added to the Coastal Plain League’s all-star list on Wednesday, making it five Florence players and a coach who made the league’s midseason honor roll.
Catcher Ronnie Freeman and outfielder Mac Doyle were named to the National CPL All-Star squad a day after Stephen Carmon, Trey Hernandez and Patrick Dolan were named to the American team.
Florence’s Russell Carter was named the American team’s head coach a few days ago.
Doyle was named one of the three starting outfielders. The Conway native, who plays his college ball at Wofford, has spent most of the season as the RedWolves’ starting left fielder. Heading into Wednesday’s game at Fayetteville, Doyle was second on the team in hitting with a .306 average. He had two home runs, six doubles and 17 RBI.
Freeman, who will back up Forest City’s Danny Canela, was hitting .250 with three homers and 20 RBI. Freeman, who plays collegiately at Kennesaw State, is tied for third in the league, having thrown out 14 would-be base-stealers.
The CPL All-Star festivities begin Monday at McNair Field in Forest City, N.C., with the annual Fan Fest and All-Star Home Run Derby. The game is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Tuesday.
