HARTSVILLE - The Iva All Stars defeated the Edisto All Stars 13-4 to win the Dixie Youth AA Machine Pitch State Tournament championship at Byerly Park on Wednesday. Iva went undefeated in the tournament.
Iva started the game off pushing three runs across the board in the top of the first inning. Edisto answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to cut the lead to one.
Edisto grabbed the lead in the bottom of the second inning when Will Rickenbaker and Bo Jacobs both scored, but that would be the last time that Edisto had the lead.
Iva jumped back ahead in the top of third. Nathan Bailey and Justin Tillman each had RBI singles in the inning giving Iva a 5-4 lead.
Iva continued to score as its defense shut Edisto down. Iva scored three runs in the fourth, two in the fifth and three more in the sixth as Edisto was unable to score after the second inning.
Jarrett Oakes, Cade Langston and Luke Bowman all crossed the plate in the top of the fourth for Iva.
Iva got back to work in the fifth when Drew Parnell ripped a RBI single that knocked in Jacob Lewis. Oakes followed with another RBI single pushing Tillman across the plate.
Iva capped the game off with the final three runs of the game in the top of sixth.
With the victory, Iva advances to North Charleston, S.C. to represent South Carolina in the Dixie Youth Region 2 AA Machine Pitch Regional on July 23-26. Edisto, who came in second, Lake City, who came in third, and Darlington American, who came in fourth, also advance to the regional.
In the machine pitch games leading up to the championship, Iva beat Darlington 4 -3 and Edisto beat Lake City 7 -3.
