MULLINS -- Over 70 players participated in the annual Mullins High School Basketball Alumni game on July 2. The annual weekend event organized by the Mullins Alumni Basketball Association and several supporters is a fundraising effort to provide scholarship funds to seniors.
Mullins varsity boys basketball coach Mark Gerald said the turnout was great. “We had a really good crowd. A lot players came back and played and the golf tourney was good too.”
Friday’s round of games started out with a contest among the Lady Auctioneers and followed by three additional men’s basketball games.
The games was also an opportunity to hold a benefit for Eric Legette, who was supported by his cousin Indiana University Lady Hoosiers head coach Felisha Legette-Jack. Medically, Legette is in need of a kidney transplant.
“The competition was good. The younger guys at the final game are always good. This year they all were pretty interesting,” Gerald said of the event, which included the annual golf tournament at Pineland Country Club on July 3.
Mullins Alumni Basketball Association is looking to add another event during the year to help raise funds for scholarships, Gerald said. In the meantime, the group and its’ many supporters look forward to another family fun event for the Independence Day holiday weekend.
