The spring USTA league season is right around the corner. The biggest concern I hear is I don't have a doubles partner, who should I play with?
The best way to determine that is to play with multiple partners in practice to see with whom you feel most comfortable. With that being said, personalities have a lot to do with the meshing of the doubles team.
Most times contrasting personalities make the best team. For example, an aggressive team sometimes has a difficult time against a passive team, and a passive team struggles against a dominating team.
If you have an aggressive style and a more passive style player that isn't afraid to come to net, you have all the bases covered.
There are so many momentum changes in the course of the match, and varying tactics are a must. Seldom can a doubles team go through the course of a match playing just one style. Don't be afraid of change.
The bottom line is the W and how to achieve it. Lastly, play matches with your partner, not socially. Your teams have to be in a competitive arena because that is what determines the L or the W.
