Coker squanders 10-run lead

HARTSVILLE — The Coker Cobras blew a 10-run lead and lost, 15-14, to Augusta State on Thursday in baseball action.

The Cobras led 11-1 after the second inning, but Augusta State battled their way back to tie the game at 14-14 in the eighth inning. A double by Kenny Smith in the top of the ninth gave ASU the go ahead run in scoring position and then an RBI single by Justin Appel brought home the eventual game winner.

Justin Collier (1-1) took the loss, going 1 1/3 innings allowing one run on two hits with a strikeout.

At the plate, Daniel Hiatt was 3-for-4 with a home run, a triple, four RBI and two runs scored, while South Florence’s Trey Lynch was 2-for-4 with a double and a triple, three RBIs and two runs scored. Jessie Crockett finished the day with a three-run homer and a run scored
