HARTSVILLE - On Friday, Emmanuel Christian School honored its senior varsity basketball players Anna King, Bianca Rogers and Dominique Harris-Skeeter in conjunction with the final home game against Calvary Christian School. The team’s record is 9-8 overall and 3-3 in conference play.
“Our girls came out and played well from the start and continued to play with enthusiasm and toughness,” Coach Jimmy Beck said. “Everybody got substantial playing time, and we got to honor our seniors, so it was a big win on a big night.”
The Crusaders dominated the game winning 37-19 over Calvary. The girls outscored their opponents in all but the last frame of play. The score was 24-7 at the half.
“Calvary has two very good players, and we held them to a total of ten points through the first three quarters and that was big for us tonight,” Beck said.
Scoring for Emmanuel were Ashley Atkinson with 12 points; Caylee Carpenter with eight; Millie Rogers, Bianca Rogers and Emily Light each with four, Bridgette Smith with three and King with two.
Scoring for Calvary were Carolina Rexroad with 16 points, Lauren Cross with two and Kelsey Rexroad with one.
On Feb. 2, the Crusaders defeated Grace Christian in similar style 45-18, outscoring their opponents in every frame.
“I am thrilled with how our girls responded to tonight’s challenge,” Beck said. “We played one of our most complete games of the season, and I was extremely pleased with the enthusiasm and toughness our girls played with tonight.”
Scoring for Emmanuel were Smith with 13 points; Atkinson with eight; Carpenter and Millie Rogers each with five; and Bianca Rogers, King and Light each with four.
Scoring for Grace were Katie Huffstetler with five points and Brittany Webster and Rachel Hair each with four.
The Crusaders play Low Country Day School at Pawley's Island today and enter the first round of state playoffs on Thursday against Sumter Christian School. Location of the game is to be announced.
