FLORENCE -- Florence native Carlos Powell and teammate Antoine Agudio and were named NBA Development League co-Performers of the Week on Monday. The award is the second for Powell, who was also recognized for his play Jan. 11.
Agudio and Powell led the Albuquerque Thunderbirds to a 3-1 record last week, including back-to-back victories over the Western Conference leading Rio Grande Valley Vipers. The duo combined for 51 points on Feb. 3 when Albuquerque defeated the Vipers 123-114.
“This award is a testament not only to Carlos and Antoine but to a total team emergence and culmination of hard work and togetherness,” Thunderbirds coach John Coffino said.
For the week, Powell chipped in with 23 points per game on 47 percent shooting from the field (30-of-64). He also recorded 4.5 assists and 4.0 rebounds per game.
Powell, the former Wilson and South Carolina standout, is averaging 22.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.8 assists in 29 games.
Powell will be playing in his second NBA D-League All-Star game Saturday. The game will take place at 3 p.m. in Dallas and will be carried on NBA TV (Time Warner channel 158).
