Everett Golson has almost a full year to make the most important decision in his life thusfar. But the Myrtle Beach junior quarterback is not into procrastination. Just two days after signing day 2010, Golson announced where he will be signing on signing day 2011.
Golson verbally committed to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Friday, in the Myrtle Beach auditorium in front of a small collection of teachers, teammates, and media. Golson called UNC "his dream school" and said he wanted to commit now so that the Tar Heel coaching staff could spend there time recruiting other players, and because he didn't want his recruitment to be a distraction during the football season.
Also a basketball player, Golson said he talked with Roy Williams, who told him that he would have a chance to walk on to the basketball team. Golson had admitted in the past that basketball was his first love, but he said Friday that he knew that bigger schools were looking at him as a quarterback, so it was not a hard decision to choose a football scholarship over basketball.
Golson said that this was a "solid verbal commitment", but he said if other coaches from "bigger schools" called him he would listen. He added he is not opposed to making visits to other schools over the next year. Golson had offers from UNC, Stanford, Michigan, and Clemson.
Golson has the second and third highest season passing touchdown totals in South Carolina history and all ready has the record for touchdown passes in the state. He has led Myrtle Beach two consecutive state championship games.
