Rivals Marion and Mullins clash, Aucs get big win at home

1. The Marion Lady Swamp Foxes raised the Class 2A championship banner this past week with an 83-30 victory over Mullins this past week. The Foxes followed up with an 87-32 win this past Friday at Loris.

2. Geneika Brantley and Amber Timmons each scored 18 points to lead Marion in the win against Loris. Candace Wright added 12 points for the Swamp Foxes followed by Amira Timmons with 10 points and Faith Davis with four points.

3. Head coach Pete Eillis and the Swamp Foxes varsity boys basketball team are in contention for a region championship after this past week’s huge win at home versus Mullins, followed by a win on the road at Loris. After taking out Aynor, Marion has a critical game at home against Dillon before taking on front-runner Cheraw at home on Feb. 8.

4. The Lady Auctioneers are getting a big lift from Freshman Niesha Godfrey. The athletic guard provides solid production on the offensive end but is already one of the top defenders on the squad.

5. Creek Bridge continues to roll, after getting a nearly 30-point performance from slashing guard Rakeem Williams. The Warriors knocked off Johnsonville at home this past week.

6. Creek Bridge managed to play a very good game on the road against Hemingway this past Friday in an 86-71 loss. Williams led all scorers with 22 points, followed by Vic Williams with 18 points and Charles Green with 15 points.

7. Creek Bridge fights for playoff contention with two home games this week against Carvers Bay and Lake View. The Warriors will host the Wild Gators Friday at 6 p.m.

8. This week Mullins will hit the road to face Loris on Friday.

9. Palmetto Middle School will host a conference tournament Feb. 9-11. The Bulldogs have a good young guard on the squad in eighth grader Paul Stackhouse. The Bulldogs wone five of their first six games on the season. The squad is in a tie for first place on a season that has included a thrilling come-from-behind win over J.V. Martin 42-32. The Lady Bulldogs are also in top form leading the conference.

10. The Mullins Auctioneers got big win at home this past Friday against Cheraw. The Aucs knocked off the top team in the region in a 52-49 final.
Aucs forward B.J. Crawford was terror in the game, picking up 15 points in the first half to give Mullins a 28-22 advantage.
Mullins point guard Chris Harley got the team off to a 15-12 start in the first quarter with seven points along with two rebounds and two assist.
In third quarter, Mullins held on to a 40-37 advatage thanks to the rebounding of center Kenny Wayne Jackson. Crawford helped to hold off a late surge by the Braves with six points in the quarter.

Jackson cleaned up for the Aucs with two scores, giving Mullins six points off second chance attempts.
With 1:01 remaining in the game Johnathan Jenkins dished off the assist to Crawford for the go-ahead score 50-49. The Aucs managed to hold off the Braves defensivley and Trevor Dantzler secured the game with two free throws.
Crawford led Mullins with 25 points and 13 rebounds. Jackson finished with nine points.
Aaron Robinson led the Braves with 17 points.

Game Updates:

Marion knocked off Aynor Tuesday night home. Swamp Fox forward Deonte Johnson led with 27 points and 17 rebounds along with six steals in an 85-50 victory. Teammate D.J. Rowell added 15 points along with 10 points from Jerry German and 14 points from Justin Gause.
The Lady Swamp Foxes defeated Aynor 73-31 thanks to Geneika Brantley’s 21 points and 13 rebounds. Brantley also registered six blocks and five steals. Candace Wright added 14 points and 10 rebounds for Marion.

Mullins earned a 57-55 win on the road at Dillon Tuesday night and sophomore forward Tyree Constant scored the winning lay up with two seconds remaining in the game. Aucs shooting guard Trevor Dantzler scored 17 points in a duel with Dillon’s Jarvis Williams and his 15 points scored.
Johnathan Jenkins added nine points for the Aucs along with eight points each from Chris Harley and B.J. Crawford.

Creek Bridge earned a big win at home Tuesday, defeating Carvers Bay 61-60. Brothers Vic Williams and Charles Green each scored 15 points to lead the Warriors. Rakeem Williams added 12 points for Creek Bridge.
