HARTSVILLE - The varsity boys’ soccer team lost a tough match to a much improved Carolina Forest team 3-1 at The Cage Tuesday, dropping the Red Foxes’ conference record to 2-4.
The score was 1-0 at halftime in a pretty much even affair to that point. In the second half, Hartsville dominated the possession and peppered the goal mouth with shot after shot. Hartsville out-shot Carolina Forest 12-4 in the second half but could not finish any of those opportunities.
"When you have that many shots on goal and don't really put any on frame, you are never going to beat good teams,” Coach Troy Alexander said. “Carolina Forest came to play and finished every chance they had. They are going to be a tough team to play down the stretch. Until we start limiting our mental mistakes, we are going to continue to struggle."
Two huge mental breakdowns gave the visiting team their next two goals.
Caston Jeffords, Evan Vasseur, and Zach Davis played extremely well but could not get the Foxes on the board.
The Red Foxes take conference rivals the Knights at West Florence Friday.
