FLORENCE — Francis Marion junior defender Justin Kibler has been selected as the Peach Belt Conference men’s soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 21-27, while junior Clark Richeson was named the PBC’s Goalkeeper of the Week.
The pair helped Francis Marion to a 1-0-1 mark in two road matches last week.
Kibler, a native of Pickerington, Ohio, helped anchor a Patriot defense that allowed only 21 shots (9 on-goal) and one goal in 200 minutes. He also assisted on FMU’s goal in a 1-0 win at Georgia Southwestern State University on Saturday. That win extended Francis Marion’s unbeaten streak in PBC regular-season matches to eight contests.
Richeson, a native of Mansfield, Texas, made five saves in a 1-1 tie at 23rd-ranked Coker College and then registered three saves in Saturday’s match at Georgia Southwestern en route to his third shutout of the year and ninth of his career. He leads the conference in goals against average (0.73) and save percentage (.880) and is second in saves.
The FMU defense has allowed a conference-low six scores in 2009 and sports a PBC-best 0.73 goals against average.
The 5-2-1 Patriots will play a key Peach Belt match at Lander University on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
