FLORENCE – Sophomore hitter Ashlee Crook pounded out 12 kills and junior libero Kelsie Deaton dug up a season-high 25 balls to lead Francis Marion to a 25-22, 21-25, 25-23, 25-23 win over visiting USC Aiken on Friday.
Francis Marion evens its overall record at 6-6 and is now 1-2 in the PBC. USCA falls to 10-5 and 2-2.
The Patriots will entertain Lander University today at 3 p.m. on Hawaiian Shirt Day, while USCA visits UNC Pembroke also at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
After splitting the first two games, FMU took a commanding 12-7 advantage in the third set.
However, USCA rallied to go ahead, but the Patriots regrouped to claim a 25-23 win. In the fourth and final game, Francis Marion overcame a 6-0 deficit to win another nail bitter 25-23.
Sophomore Amanda Mitchell registered seven kills and four blocks, junior middle blocker Mallory Eggert added five kills and eight blocks, and freshman Liz Drewry had five kills and six blocks for Francis Marion. Sophomore Hallie Legg and senior Jess O’Leary handed out 19 and 16 assists respectively.
