FLORENCE — Freshman forward Stephanie Rose scored a pair of goals, one in each half, to lead UNC Wilmington to a 4-0 win over Francis Marion on Friday in women’s soccer action.
The Patriots drop to 1-7-0 and will face Appalachian State University on Sunday at 2 p.m. That match has been deemed the Sea of Red Day and all fans are encouraged to wear red.
UNCW (4-3-0) got on the board in the sixth minute when Jenna Evans collected a failed clearance and lofted a 15-yard shot over the outstretched arm of FMU sophomore goalkeeper Casey Durham.
Rose took an outlet pass from Meagan Simeone and after a long run scored on a 19-yard shot at the 7:06 mark. The advantage grew to 3-0 when freshman Amanda Holmes used an assist from Brittany Croce and scored on a 22-yard shot from the near right side in the 24th minute.
Rose accounted for the final score, her team-leading fourth goal of the season, on a 10-yard shot in the 60th minute.
UNCW outshot the Patriots 17-2 and earned all seven of the match’s corner kicks.
Senior Jennifer Dyer (18th minute) and junior Kayla Denmyer (40th minute) accounted for the two FMU shots.
