CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte 49ers jumped to a 3-0 first-half lead and cruised to a 7-1 victory over Francis Marion on Friday in women's soccer.

The Patriots drop to 0-5-0 on the season and will play at Davidson College on Sunday at 4 p.m.

Freshman forward Rebeccah Hoekstra scored FMU lone tally in the 50th minute to draw the Patriots to within 3-1. The score came after senior Angela Salem had her shot stopped by 49er goalkeeper Lauren Brown, but the ball deflected to Hoekstra who knocked it into the net for her first collegiate goal.
