DARLINGTON — In the season opener, Hartsville’s dominant serving and front row hitters triumphed as the Red Foxes defeated Darlington 3-0 by scores of 25-4, 25-12 and 25-12.
“Both teams did really well,” Hartsville coach Amber Ortolano. “Both teams as a whole have a lot of learning that has to go on.”
The Falcons have 17 girls on the varsity team, but only four are returning players.
“Tonight, since we knew that Hartsville’s a strong team, it gave me an opportunity to see some of the weaknesses I had in some girls and their strengths,” said Darlington coach Mike Yelton. “That’s why I was rotating a lot in subs to see where I’m doing next week as far as my lineup.”
Hartsville will play again at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Crestwood. The Falcons will host South Florence at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
