Myrtle Beach Pelicans are about to wrap up their regular season series

MYRTLE BEACH - Myrtle Beach Pelicans attendance records haven’t been safe all season as numerous series, homestand, multi-game span and single-game records have been threatened or broken this summer at BB&T Coastal Field.

According to a news release from the Pelicans, the team is currently closing in on the most significant of them all, the overall single-season attendance record. The Pelicans are currently just 27,175 fans away from matching last year’s record-breaking season total of 242,397. The Pelicans have welcomed 215,220 fans to games this summer versus 218,330 fans that passed through the gates at this time a season ago. This small deficiency is even more impressive when you factor in the four games that were lost to rainouts this year versus one at this time last year. Though the total may be lagging slightly, the per-game average is up by nearly 4.7% over last season at over 3,710 per game.

“It has been another spectacular season in the stands for us this season,” said Pelicans’ General Manager North Johnson. “Despite the economic downturn we have all suffered, we still have had wonderful support from our fan base. We can’t thank our fans enough for their loyalty to the organization this season, and we look forward to increased local support over our final 8 games to help us break yet another attendance record.“

Fans have responded in droves to promotional nights added mid-season to a slate that was already chock full of exciting events. Some of those nights have included “Kids Eat Free” thanks to Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Society, Dollar Hot Dogs, Fiesta del Beisbol and “Dollar Kids Day” compliments of Carolina Trust Federal Credit Union for kids 12 and under coming up on Wednesday, August 26.

The Pelicans return for a four-game wraparound series with the Winston-Salem Dash Friday, September 4 through Monday, September 7. Fireworks will follow the final two games of the season on September 6 and 7.

Tickets are available for all remaining games by calling the Pelicans box office at (843) 918-6000 or online at www.myrtlebeachpelicans.com.
