FLORENCE — Francis Marion senior midfielder Kyle Clinton has been selected as the Peach Belt Conference men’s soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while the unbeaten Patriots move up four positions to 18th in this week’s National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas Top 25 poll.
Clinton, a native of Safety Harbor, Fla., tallied three goals in two Patriot wins last week. He scored on a penalty kick in a 2-0 road win at Wingate University and then scored FMU’s first two goals in a 4-1 home victory over St. Andrews Presbyterian College last Saturday.
An All-Conference and All-Region selection last year, Clinton has amassed 25 career goals in 59 matches.
The No. 18 national ranking is the highest for the Patriots since FMU occupied the No. 17 position in the Sept. 9, 2003 poll. The 2-0-0 Patriots played at Anderson University on Tuesday at 7 p.m. FMU is unbeaten in its last 14 regular-season contests.
FMU will play at Pfeiffer University on Sunday at 2 p.m. The next home match for the Patriots will be Sept. 16 against Mount Olive.
