COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina running back Jarvis Giles has been suspended and won't make the trip to play No. 2 Alabama on Saturday night.

South Carolina athletic spokesman Steve Fink said Friday that Giles violated team and university policy. The freshman was the 22nd-ranked Gamecocks' second-leading rusher this season with 245 yards.

Fink said he did not know if Giles' suspension extended past the Alabama game.

Fink also said offensive line starter Heath Batchelor would not make the trip, either. Multiple media outlets reported the junior left the team this week. Fink would not comment on those reports.

In addition, Fink said second-team receiver Dion Lecorn and backup defensive end Byron McKnight would miss the game because of injuries.
