Chanticleers take care of Keydets

CONWAY — Zach MacDowall threw for 207 yards and a touchdown to lead Coastal Carolina to a 20-6 victory over Virginia Military Institute on Saturday night.
MacDowall was 14 of 20 and gave the Chanticleers (3-2, 1-0 Big South Conference) a 7-3 lead on a 41-yard touchdown pass to Adrian Sullivan with 5:44 left in the first quarter.
Jamie Childers scored Coastal Carolina’s final touchdown on a 13-yard run with 1:19 left in the game. Childers finished with 54 yards rushing and was 5 of 5 for 38 yards.
The Chanticleers had 418 yards of offense and held the Keydets (1-4, 0-2) to 75 yards passing.
Eric O’Neal led Coastal Carolina with 78 yards rushing.
Kyle Hughes scored VMI’s only touchdown on a 1-yard run to cap a 17-play, 81-yard drive with 7:50 left in the first quarter.
Hughes rushed for 55 yards and was 4 of 15 for 75 yards and two interceptions.
