The Hartsville Rebels (4-0) won the 14 & Under championship in the USSSA HartsVegas Diamond Challenge this weekend at Byerly Park after defeating Team Sumter 7-4 during the team’s second matchup of the tournament.
A total of 15 teams from across the region participated in three age groups on Saturday and Sunday. Four games were rained out at the end of the tournament on Sunday, but all the championship games were completed.
In the 11 & Under group, the S.C. Hurricanes took the championship with a 12-8 victory over the Carolina Cavaliers. The final game of the tournament, Carolina Copperheads v. Carolina Braves, was rained out in the second inning with the Copperheads leading 2 to 1.
In the 12 & Under group, Carolina Storm took the championship in a blowout 5-0 game against the Carolina Cobras. In one of the finals games of the tournament, the Bulldog Pride lead 6-1 in the 3rd inning against the Thunder when the game had to be called due to field and safety conditions because of the rain.
In the 14 & Under group, the last game of the day, Florence Blade v. Carolina Elite, was rained out due to poor field conditions.
