MELBOURNE, Fla. — Junior forward Robert Faulkner came off the bench to score 22 points and grab 10 rebounds to lead Francis Marion to an 87-75 win over the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras on Monday on the second day of the Florida Tech Tip-Off Classic.
The Patriots, who improved to 2-0, connected on 59 percent of their field goal attempts in the opening half and led 51-41 at halftime. The lead grew to 81-61 following a free throw by guard Herman Mains with 5:27 remaining. UPR-Rio Piedras scored 10 of the game’s final 13 points to trim the margin to 12.
Faulkner hit on 10 of 15 shots from the floor. Junior swingman Simel Boyd added 17 points, while Kaylan Anderson chipped in 13, including 3-of-3 from beyond the three-point arc. Junior forward David Turner added eight points while hauling down a career-high 15 rebounds.
Francis Marion held a 52-16 advantage in points-in-the-paint. FMU also owned a 45-32 rebounding advantage.
FMU will open its home slate against Carver Bible College on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. as part of the “RIOT at the Rim Night.”
