The College of Charleston comes to Kimbel Arena Friday for the 2009-2010 season opener, and it marks the return of a Pee Dee product back to the Eastern Carolinas.
Marlboro County product Cassan Breeden left Florida State midway through his junior season. He's had to sit out a year and a half from basketball, and that stretch will end Friday against the Chanticleers.
Breeden saw action in both his freshmen and sophomore years in Tallahassee, playing in 29 games in year two. His junior year, he was playing, but only averaging four and a half points a game. That's when he decided to leave FSU and come back to his home state.
The 6'8" Clio native will start at forward for the Cougars, and coach Bobby Cremins is hoping he'll be a cornerstone for a team that came within one game of winning the Southern Conference last year.
For Breeden, it's all about getting back on the court. "I don't care if I play at point guard, or at the 5, I just want to play and help this team win."
"In my entire college career, I've never played in the NCAA tournament, and that's the goal for me and my team."
Coastal plays the Breeden and the College of Charleston Friday at 7:30 at Kimbel Arena.
