Lake City High School’s ground attack steamrolled Battery Creek with 395 yards and a 46-12 win in the first round of the 3A lower state playoffs Friday.
The Panthers will travel to West Columbia this Friday to take on the undefeated Airport High School Eagles.
Running back Shon Carson led the Panthers’ rushing attack with 181 yards and four touchdowns on 20 carries. Kevin Brand added two more scores on four carries and 44 yards, while Antwon Wallace rushed for 85 yards and one touchdown on nine carries. Sheldon Robinson added another 76 yards on five rushes.
Carson scored on runs of six, three, 49 and eight yards, while Brand scored on runs of 15 and 27 yards. Wallace’s touchdown came on a three-yard run set up on his 21-yard scamper on the previous play.
Defensively, Lake City gave up 260 yards in the air, but held Battery Creek to -38 yards rushing. Damion McFadden and Robinson, a Shrine Bowl selection, each picked off a Battery Creek pass.
