FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Barrett Kleinknecht hit a game-winning RBI single in the top of the 11th inning, then pitched a scorless bottom half to pick up the save as the Florence RedWolves improved to 3-0 with a 5-4 win over the Fayetteville SwampDogs on Friday.
Kleinknecht was 3-for-5 to lead the team, the only player with multiple hits.
Will Locante (1-0) picked up the win after tossing four scorless innings of relief work with three strikeouts.
The SwampDogs rallied twice from two-run deficits, scoring two runs off Florence’s BJ Hyatt and Kyle Deese to knot the game at 4-4 after five innings.
But Locante and former Wilson High standout John Taylor combined to shut down Fayetteville the rest of the way.
The RedWolves will host Thomasville tonight at 7:30 p.m.
